Making your way around Puerto Vallarta should not be difficult at all ,actually I find our public transportation clean, safe and fun!
There are a lot of chances that during your bus ride you get to see guitar players, duets, clowns and other artists performing live and making your ride fun. of course,a tip is always welcome for them!
Here is my quick guide:

Here is my quick guide:
Buses:
Lesson 1: There are two words that you need to learn before getting on a bus:
"Centro" that means "downtown"
"Tunel" that means.... yes you got it: "Tunnel"
You will see these words written at the windshield of the buses,so before you get on the bus, look for "Centro" or "Tunel" word on it.
"Centro" buses will go into down through the main avenue and by the Malecon or Boardwalk.
"Tunel" buses will go into old town on the by-pass around downtown and through the tunnel. Either way, if you’re heading IN to town, you’ll end up in oldtown…the perfect place to start your downtown trip. But if your decided destination is in “El Centro” (for instance, along the Malecòn), take the bus labeled “Centro”. On the other hand, the ‘tunel’ route takes you over and through the hill above the city, with great views of the town and bay. Sit on the right side going into town, and on the left coming out for the best window seats.
the actual bus rate is $6.50 pesos per person per trip.
Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlan buses depart from old town and charge $7.00 pesos per person.
Lesson 2: There are different Color of buses, here are the ones that you need to pay attention on:
1.- Blue buses (blue and white also). this color basically means that the bus will go mostly by the main street in PuertoVallarta (Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio) and can say "tunel" or "centro" (lesson #1)
2.-Green buses. these buses are the ones that goes to the non-touristic places in Puerto Vallarta but, they will take you to oldtown. I invite you to take one of these buses to take a look into Puerto Vallarta´s inside way of living. Do your own city tour!!
3.- Gray buses or ATM buses.- These buses are the ones that will take you to the north side of the bay and back. Make your way to: Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias, Punta de mita,Sayulita or even further north!.
ATM Bus rates:
Puuerto Vallarta to Nuevo Vallarta (grey bus ATM) : $13.00 pesos per person
Puerto Vallarta to Bucerias (grey bus ATM) : $12.00 pesos per person
Puerto Vallarta to La Cruz (grey bus ATM) : $16.00 pesos per person
Puerto Vallarta to Punta Mita (grey bus ATM) : $23.00 pesos per person
4.- Orange buses

Taxis:
You can take a taxi anywhere around the bay, my recommendation is ALWAYS to ask: "cuanto?"
that means: How much? before you jump into a taxi. so you don't get any surprise!
Taxis do not have a meter, so they charge by distance or zone
Also try to write down the number of the taxi that you are taking in case you forget something in it.
By law, in a regular taxi there is a maximum capacity of 4 passengers. If you have more than 4 people in your group, you will need a van or another taxi.
There are different kind of taxis so I will sort them by color:

There are different kind of taxis so I will sort them by color:
Khaki taxis: Federal zones like: airport or the maritime terminal.
These taxis have set prices by zone and normally they are more pricey than the regular yellow taxis.
Yellow taxis: All around Puerto Vallarta
These taxis do not have meters and they have a rate by zone too. If you think that the price is not fare, bargaining will do.
White taxis: Nuevo Vallarta and Nayarit taxis.
